While CHC primarily focuses our efforts on public policy in Sacramento, we are keenly aware that decisions made in Washington, D.C. significantly shape the operating environment for California’s affordable home building industry. With that in mind, our Board Chair Jim Silverwood, Policy Vice Chair Robin Hughes, and representatives of 9 CHC member companies will join Policy Director Marina Wiant for our annual DC delegation trip next week.
CHC is working with the A.C.T.I.O.N. campaign – a coalition of more than 1,300 national, state, and local affordable housing advocates to build on last year’s success in making the 9% federal tax credit permanent. Our annual trip is particularly timely, as Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) has recently introduced her proposal to expand the Low Income Housing Tax Credit by 50 percent.
Our visit gives CHC members the opportunity to speak directly to members of Congress about our expertise in deploying LIHTC funding to meet the housing needs of California’s families, and the critical need to expand federal financing tools to help address California’s affordability crisis. I know our CHC delegation will be outstanding representatives for the leadership, vision, and innovation of California affordable developers, and quality developments that provide opportunities for families and enhance communities. Thank you to all CHC members who are attending or sending representatives.
If you are not able to travel to Washington, DC, CHC provides many opportunities to network and build leadership in our industry, including at our annual May 12 gathering in Santa Monica. I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Ray Pearl
CHC Executive Director
