Note from the Executive Director – February 2016

With housing so critical to our state’s future – from our economic competitiveness to improving health and boosting educational outcomes – CHC has wisely set a goal to elevate housing production as a priority in the broader public policy environment. I’m proud to report that because of that effort, CHC has an exciting opportunity to be at the table with influential business and civic leaders to position affordable housing solutions as an urgent priority and opportunity for California.

On behalf of CHC, I’ve accepted the opportunity to co-chair the California Economic Summit Housing Action team alongside Cathy Creswell, former acting director of the Department of Housing and Community Development. A project of California Forward, the Summit aims to forge new policy ideas to expand housing production and bring together leaders to share innovative strategies across regions. The Summit recently released a set of bold goals to create jobs and opportunities in California, including “one million more homes for low and middle-income Californians in the next 10 years.”

In the coming months, I am looking forward to working with a broad-cross section of leaders to forge the bold solutions needed to break down barriers in affordable home production and to advance these solutions in the Legislature. These organizations bring considerable heft to our message and represent a strong opportunity to engage a broader audience in putting forward housing investment as a priority for California.

Sincerely,

Ray Pearl
CHC Executive Director
